Do Animals Lie?

When my elephant friends told me that animals don’t have egos and don’t lie, I was intrigued.

During a recent Elephant Hour, we asked them to elaborate. They explained that human misunderstanding of this topic stems from defaulting to sensory perception, and challenged us to examine how often we lie to ourselves.

I experienced this firsthand in January while pet-sitting for a cat named Magic. A big, beautiful Bengal cat repeatedly tried to enter the house through Magic’s cat flap. Curious, I telepathically asked him about his situation. The cat shared with me that while there was a house he was allowed in, he was treated merely as a possession rather than receiving the loving care Magic enjoyed. He also noted, “Magic’s human will think I’m not being truthful.”

When I messaged Magic’s human about the cat, she initially assumed the cat was just “lying” to get inside. However, when she returned from holiday, and we discussed the details of what the Bengal cat had conveyed, she opened her heart to his truth.

Animal Communication is a beautiful opportunity for us to move beyond our assumptions and deeply question the things we think we know.
