Portland Oregon December 14, 2017. I attended one of those holiday functions – You know the type – an evening Tibetan Singing Bowl/ Reiki Healing Session/ hosted by a woman whom you’d met by staying in the same Airbnb in Kathmandu Nepal!
I arrived early to a warm room. The healer was busy preparing for the session. Once I’d sat down another guest arrived plopping herself down beside me. Emma Clifford and I started chatting instantly. Our mutual friend the healer noticed our exchange from the front of the room. The healer shouted with a big smile that Emma and I needed to exchange contact info as we had much in common.
It was Nepal! Emma had just returned from Tiger Tops in Nepal. Tiger Tops is an eco-friendly resort in southern Nepal where I completed my first internship in elephant footcare. She had also attended the Animal Conference in Kathmandu. It turns out Emma had met and spent time with folks I knew. We had a giggle about the power of Nepal while exchanging numbers at the end of the healing session.
The following week while having coffee with Emma sharing about Nepal and elephants the subject of animal communication came up. Since I conveyed an open mind about the subject, Emma shared that animal and nature communication was part of her life and that she was mentored by Dr. Maia Kincaid.
Immediately I asked Emma to reach out to an elephant I wanted an opinion from. Emma agreed to speak with the elephant in her upcoming Saturday class with Maia. It was only Tuesday! How could I possibly wait? Could this be true? Along with 80 billion other questions that came swirling.
Saturday finally came. During work that day I thought often about Emma sharing my questions with her teacher and classmates. I wondered what it would be like to sit in on one of Maia’s classes as a guest of Emma’s. How does animal communication work? Can all humans telepathically communicate with animals? Would I actually be able to communicate with an elephant while working on their feet? Wouldn’t that be a more compassionate encounter? It was all so intriguing!
That afternoon Emma called and shared what the elephant had communicated to them in class that day. This was my introduction to the year-long animal communication mentorship classes with Dr. Maia Kincaid. The schedule consists of two classes on Thursday, and an early morning Saturday class, all via a one and a half hour conference call. When I learned that two classes are on Thursday – I had to smile, as Thursday happens to be my day off. It feels that it was meant to be. Once a month the Saturday class concentrates on communicating with nature as it relates to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
My mind is open as I await my first animal communication class with Dr. Maia Kincaid January 2018.

पोर्ट्ल्याण्ड ओरिगोन डिसेम्बर १४, २०१७। मैले छुट्टिको कामहरु मध्ये एक साझ तिब्बत्तियन गीत गायन/रिकी उपचार सत्रमा सहभागी भएको थिए । यो कार्यक्रम एक महिला द्वारा सन्चालन गरिएको थियो जसलाई तपाई एयर बि एन बि , काठमाडौँ बसाइको क्रममा भेट्न सक्नुहुन्छ ।
म बिहानै न्यानो कोठामा पुगेको थिए । जहाँ गुरु त्यस दिनको अभ्याशको तयारीमा हुनुहुन्थ्यो। म बस्ने बित्तिकै अर्को एक जना पाहुना मेरो छेउमा आएर पलेटी कसेर बासिन। उ र म तुरुन्तै कुराकानी गर्न थाल्यौ , उसको नाम एमा क्लिफार्ड रहेछ। गुरुले हाम्रो क्रियाकलाप कोठा को अघिल्लो भाग बाट नियाली रहेका थिए र बडो मुस्कानका साथ् हामीलाई कराउनु भयो। एमा र मैले आआफ्नो सम्पर्क नम्बर साटासाट गर्यौ किनकि उ र म बीच अझै धेरै कुराहरु गर्न बाकी नै थियो ।
हामी नेपालमा थियौ । एमा भर्खरै टाइगर टप्स होटल बाट फर्केकी थिइन । टाइगर टप्स नेपालको दछिनी भागमा अवस्थित एक प्रकृति मैत्री रिसोर्ट हो। जहाँ मैले हातिहरुको खुट्टाको स्याहार सुसार गर्ने तालिम लिएको थिए । उनले काठमाडौँ मा आयोजित पशु सम्मेलनमा पनि भाग लिएकी थिइन । मैले चिनेका केहि व्यक्ति हरु संग एमाले भेटेकी र केहि समय बिताएकी रहिछन। उपचार सत्रको अन्त्यमा हामीले नेपालको शक्तिको बारेमा हसिमजाग गरेका थियौ।
त्यहि हप्ता एमासंग कफी पिउने क्रममा इमाले नेपाल र हात्तीहरुको बारेमा कुरा गर्दा पशु संचारको बिसय आएको थियो। उनको कुरा मैले बहुतै सहज र खुल्ला हृदयले सुनिरहेको थिए । पशु र प्रकृति संग कुरा गर्ने उनको जीवनको एउटा पाटो नै रहेछ र यस बिसयमा उनलाई डा. मैइ किनकैड बाट सल्लाह सुझाव मिल्दो रहेछ । मैले तुरुन्तै एमालाई एक हात्तिको बिचार बुझने चाहना ब्यक्त गरे। आउने शनिबारको दिन डा. मैइ किनकैडसंगको क्लासमा हात्तीसंग कुरा गर्न एमाले सहमति जनाइन। मंगलबारको दिन थियो शनिबार कुर्न मलाई अत्याश लाग्दै थियो। के यो सत्य हुन सक्छ ? यस्तै यस्तै अनगिन्ति प्रश्न र कौतुहल मेरो मनमा खेल्न थाले ।
अन्ततः शनिबार आयो । त्यस दिनको कामको क्रममा बारम्बार मैले सोच्थे एमाले मेरो प्रश्नहरु आफ्नो शिछेक र सहपाठीहरु संग सोध्दै होलिन। डा. मैइको क्लासमा इमाको पाहुना को रुपमा बस्न पाए हुन्थ्यो जस्तो बिचार मेरो मनमा खेल्न थाले । पशु संचार कसरि काम गर्दछ ? यो काम कसरि हुन्छ ? के सबै मानिसहरु टेलीपाथ बाट पसुहरु संग कुरा गर्न सक्छन ? के म वास्तवमै हात्तीहरुको खुट्टाको स्याहार सुसार गर्ने क्रममा उनिहरुसंग बोल्न योग्य हुनेछु ? यो त अतय्न्तै मायालु र प्रेमिल मुठभेढ़ हुनेछ , होइन र ? यी सबै चाखलाग्दा कुरा हरु थिए ।
त्यो दिन दिउसो एमाले मलाई फोन गरेर हात्तीसंग कुराकानी गरेको कुरा सुनाइन । डा. मैइ किनकैडसंगको यो मेरो बर्सौ लामो पशु संचार क्लास को परिचय थियो। समय तालिका अनुसार क्लास बिहिबार दुइ पटक र शनिबार बिहान भिडियो कन्फ्रेन्स कल मार्फत सन्चाल हुने रहेछ। जब क्लास बिहिबार दुइ पटक हुने कुरा थाहा पाए म खुसीले मुस्कुराए, किनकि बिहिबार मेरो छुट्टीको दिन हो । सायद यो हुनु नै थियो । महिनाको एक दिन शनिबारको क्लास संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघ स्थायी बिकाश लक्ष्य संग सम्बन्धित प्रकृति संग संचार गर्ने बिषयमा केन्द्रित हुने कुरा थाहा भयो ।
म खुला हृदय र मस्तिकका साथ् डा मैइसंगको पशु संचार क्लास जनवरी, २०१८ को पर्खाइमा छु ।
